Baltimore County police Friday released the name of the suspect in a Thursday barricade situation that shut down a six-block area of roads and forced a school closure.

Watch: Hostages Released After Barricade Situation

Roger Lee Shifflett is charged with three charges of first-degree assault and single counts of malicious desctruction of property, burglary and use of a deadly weapon with intent to injure, police said.

The standoff started at about 4 a.m. Thursday after police said Shifflett broke into a home on Walnut Avenue looking for his girlfriend.

Police spokesman Bill Toohey said Shifflett didn't find his girlfriend, but he took three people inside hostage.

Police said the suspect was worked up and threatened to kill the hostages early in the day. He also asked to get his mother on the phone.

At about 9:30 a.m. the hostage-taker released the homeowner, 62-year-old Bruce Smith. Police told 11 News that Danille Erhardt, 31, and Kenneth Collins, 26, were released shortly before noon.

Erhardt also lives in the home, and Collins was visiting her, police said. All of the hostages were said to be in good shape.

Shifflett remained inside the home until about 6:30 p.m., when he was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Toohey said police had negotiated with Shifflett, who has been seen at the door with a long gun.

Shifflett was being held on $250,000 bond.

Traffic on the 7100 block of Belair Road was still shut down for several hours Thursday, with detours between Northern Parkway and Taylor Avenue. Neighbors were warned by autodialer calls to stay inside and away from windows.

St. Michael's School was closed because of the barricade situation.
